The Cox Flexion Distraction Technique, also known as the Cox Technic, is a gentle decompression method that works with the body's natural design to relieve neck and back pain. The Cox Technique is designed to be a safe, nearly-painless alternative to back surgery, and is commonly used in patients who are still suffering from back pain after extensive surgery, or are in the rehabilitation phase and want to improve their recovery results. The technique is designed to realign the spine by applying pressure in key areas of the back; the chiropractor effectively decompresses the discs by applying a gentle stretch to the lower spine, and a series of repetitive movements and thrusts to reduce pressure.
The Cox Technic is performed on a special table that helps to separate the thoracic, cervical and lumbar spinal joints. Only slight pressure is applied to the body throughout the process, and the goal is decrease pressure and decompress the inflamed areas around the spine to restore nerve functioning.
The Cox Technic is most appropriate for resolving mid and lower back pain, hip pain, neck and shoulder pain, and reducing the effects of whiplash. Other key benefits of this treatment include:
Overall, the Cox Flexion Distraction Technique is used to decompress the spinal column and adjust poorly functioning vertebrae. It is most effective for reducing the effects of degenerative disc diseases and lumbar, cervical and thoracic disc herniations, and offers several benefits for people who do not want to undergo surgery to get rid of back pain. Dr. Gray is one of the few chiropractors in North Carolina using the table specially designed by Dr. James M. Cox of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dr. Gray is also certified as a Cox instructor.
ART is a patented, state-of-the-art soft-tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. An ART practitioner uses hands-on treatment and the patient's own motion to locate the source of pain and release soft tissues, working them back to their normal texture, tension, and length tennis elbow.
How does it work? Muscles are composed of tiny filaments of tissue that run parallel to one another, allowing each muscle to move freely. When a muscle is injured, these filaments tear. Some muscle tissue injuries are sudden like tears and sprain/strains. Others are the result of "cumulative trauma" like carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and bursitis. Regardless of the cause, the body reacts to the injury in a similar way, by filling the damaged area with inferior tissue known as fibrous adhesions. Adhesions can develop between muscles or within muscles. Still, the result is the same—the once parallel filaments of muscle tissue get bound together so they no longer slide and glide freely, impairing movement and causing pain.
ART is the first and only treatment designed specifically to treat these soft tissue problems. Combining an understanding of biomechanics and movement with hands-on manual mobilization and manipulation techniques, ART allows the practitioner to go right to the heart of the problem and resolve it quickly and effectively. The technique has been used successfully on Olympic and professional athletes (NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball, and professional cyclists, including Lance Armstrong). Conditions may include headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fascitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow.
ART was developed by Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Active Release Techniques® has a federally protected patent. Members of the College of Providers are the only ones permitted to use the term Active Release Techniques (ART) and the associated treatment protocols. The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions.
The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. The technique decreases the overall time of treatment, speeds rehabilitation and recovery, and reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication.
Conditions may include cervical or lumbar sprain/strain, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fascitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, tennis elbow, and scar tissue formation.
Laser Therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreases swelling. Laser Therapy has been widely used in Europe since the 1970's and the FDA cleared its usage in the United States in 2002, Dr. Gray is the only Chiropractor in the triad to offer this innovative therapy.
During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that releases inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
Laser Therapy is proven to biostimulate tissue repair and growth. The laser accelerates wound healing, and decrease inflammation, pain and scar tissue formation. When it come to pain management, Class IV Laser Therapy is a virtually side effect and non addictive treatment that provides dramatic results.
Numerous studies show that Laser Therapy can help with:
The tape, made with hypoallergenic acrylic glue, is manufactured to be the same weight, thickness and elasticity as the skin and is therefore able to integrate with the body's sensory system naturally. There are 3 possible categories of effect which have been identified depending on the method of application and the therapeutic outcome desired.
Structurally, Neurologically and Microcirculatory are the 3 possible catergories.
The end results is that the patient is able to achieve early engagement in pain-free ranges of motion and strengthening exercises.
GaitScan is state of the art computer hardware and software that helps Dr. Gray assess and analyze your feet. This analysis combined with his experience and knowledge detects abnormal foot function which may be affecting your feet or other parts of your body.
Dr. Gray will scan your foot and the pressure that you distribute when you walk and he will receive a summarized report from this scan. The report findings will help Dr. Gray evaluate your foot function and determine if the pain you are experiencing is related to faulty foot function. The information will also help to determine if you need orthotic therapy. If it is determined that you will benefit from orthotic therapy your information is sent securely to the Orthotic Group laboratory. From there your custom made orthotics are manufactured specifically for you and your feet.
